5 South Koreans died in avalanche Nepal

Five South Korean citizens have died in Nepal when they were trapped in an avalanche cum snow storm in mountains.These five citizens of South Korea where members of a Mountaineering team which was climbing on Mount Gurja in Nepal. The efforts to retrieve bodies is going on today. Those who have died includes the team leader of South Korean mountaineering team  Kim Chang-ho and four other South Korean nationals along with his wife South Korean national .Kim Chang-ho holds the record of fastest climbing of fourteen highest peaks in the world.He achieved the feat without use of oxygen in 2013. Their Base Camp en- route  got trapped in the snowstorm in which these five South Korean climbers died.The total death toll in this accident was nine. The rescue attempt was abandoned on Saturday.Today,on Sunday,the rescue team is trying to retrieve the bodies of mountaineers from the incident site. Eyewitnesses reported that items destroyed in this base camp are scattered up to  five hundred meters away from the incident site. Mountaineering experts say that such snow storm and massive casualty at low heights are unusual,especially in the month of October. Although, weather in mountains is always highly unpredictable.It may turn dangerous at a very short notice.It give very little room to climbers to take appropriate shelter or shift their camp. The locals from the area  has reported that on Friday evening a massive avalanche and snowstorm with high speed wind occurred in Amravati district of Western Nepal.The site of this occurrence was near Mount Dhaulagiri.The Western side of this mountain was badly hit. These five South Koreans and four Nepali assistants were staying in the Base Camp located at the height of about 3500 M en- route to the peak of Mount Gurja.The base camp of these mountaineers was caught in this snowstorm. A rescue team spotted eight bodies four south Korean mountaineers and four nepali assistants on Saturday.The bodies of climbers scattered in a wide area near the Base Camp.South Korean authorities confirmed death of fifth member also as he was also in the camp when the snowstorm hit the Base Camp. In 1969 , a Japanese team was the first to conquer   23,599-foot (7,193-metre) high Mount Gurja.It located very near to Mt Dhaulagiri,which is very avalanche prone and is considered a tough challenge for event expert mountaineers.This incident has badly hit the mountaineering industry of Nepal,where many highest peaks of the world are located.
